Central to the Kalari Healing system is a unique form of healing massage called Uzhichil. Uzhichil combines medicinal oils and herbal compresses with marma (vital point therapy) and a continuous flowing style of massage. Uzhichil opens up the flow of energy (life force) by removing deep seated blockages in the nervous system and assisting to cleanse the body of toxins. This powerful healing treatment combined with Ayurvedic medicine supports the body to heal itself while balancing the mind and emotions.
Traditionally Uzhichil is practiced on a wooden table made from a medicinal tree. Wood being a natural product allows universal healing energy to flow between the practitioner and client.
The Kalari healing room is a sacred place that is peaceful and warm. Healing mantras are quietly chanted to amplify the healing energy. Warm herbal compresses are applied over the body. The healing oil and warmth penetrates into the skin softening the tissues, allowing for greater mobility while reducing pain and tension.
The essence of Uzhichil is the practice of marma or vital point therapy. Marma therapy is the application of pressure or massage to a specific point on the body. Marma therapy reduces chronic inflammation and removes old cellular build up from in and around the vital points on the body. Using massage and heat the marma points are stimulated and normal function naturally returns. There are 108 marma points on the body and each one is connected to the organs – eg. the heart, lungs, the spinal cord and the brain. By treating the marmas the whole nervous system and vital organs are also being treated.
